How does cotton work for boardshorts?

117 GSM is the sweet spot, thin enough to dry fast instead of clinging, thick enough to last. A tight weave holds its shape and stops it going see-through wet.

The cotton itself is pima and long staple, longer fibres that make for a stronger weave, so it holds its shape wet instead of sagging like cheap cotton does.

Construction Notes

Crotch Gusset

A dedicated gusset panel in the crotch spreads load across the seam instead of concentrating it in one spot, more room to move, less strain on the stitching.

No DWR

Zero DWR or waterproof finish. What's the point of a natural boardshort if its finished in a chemical coating?

Plastic boardshorts

  • Polyester or nylon against your skin all day
  • Chemical DWR coating to repel water
  • Definitely won't break down in nature
  • Sheds microplastic

Natural Boardshorts

  • 100% natural fiber against your skin
  • No chemical coatings, nothing to wear off
  • Made from what was already growing in a field
  • Doesn't shed microplastics
